Fatal crash @ German airshow

Terrible news of a fatal crash at an airshow in Germany at the weekend.

Involving an Extra 300L which collided with another plane.

The pilot of the Extra died The other plane landed with damage and the pilot treated for shock. 1 person on the ground was also injured.

On Wedgy's translated one it says it's Bavaria - but I would guess its a lost in translation issue as it seems to be the airshow itself being called 'Vintage' ...

Sad loss at an airshow again ..... too many really .... especially in the last 12 months or so.

Thought the Germans had stopped air shows years ago following the Frecce Triccolori (or is that pasta?!) disaster? When did they re-start them?

Ah, you mean Ramstein.............

Yeah after Ramstein (1988) Germany basically "banned" airshows.

Of course there are still airshows in Germany but you won't find a big one with any fast jets, looking at the 2010 season over there the fastest thing I could find that displayed in Germany was an L-39 Albatross.

The pilots were more annoyed than the general public over the banning.

I know that Lviv won't host anymore airshows after that horrendous tragedy in 2002 and Radoms future was in question for a while but they are going ahead with the 2011 show.
