Yak-50 Engine Failure - Pilots View

Postby Thumper » Mon Nov 15, 2010 12:42 pm

Found this link on UKAR.

Onboard filming by the pilot in his Yak-50 (G-YAKK) as the engine fails due to loss of oil pressure.

He skillfully puts it down in a field somewhere in the Lake District not far from Carlisle. Can't quite see but I think he hit the drystone wall which is what ripped the front landing gear off.

Bloody scary to watch but pleased he is OK.

Full report of accident available to view here:

Not the first incident for G-YAKK either as it had a "crash" whilst taxiing at North Weald in 2003 due to pneumatic system reservoir bursting.

=))

Judging by his long term absence you have to wonder if he took flying lessons and thought it would be OK to land like that!!
