They are so busy slagging off the Tories on other fora for the cuts in the military - they are forgetting the reason we have to have them!!

Close KINLOSS and LOSSIEMOUTH keep LEUCHARS open with Typhoons for Northern Air Defence and keep Marham FULL of Tornados. ;)

This Defence Planning REALLY is very EASY! :D

For as long as I can remember, and I remember Suez, the MOD (as it is now) has always made decisions that seem unfathomable to everyone else. OK this Govt have to make swingeing cuts to the Armed Force's budgets (especially as we are now 'Gift Aiding' £7Billion to the Irish) but no credible Risk Asessment seems to have been carried out.

We appear to still see Russia and the Warsaw pact countries as our No1 enemies. Why else would all that heavy armour, tanks/artillery and armoured personnel carriers etc be kept in Europe when they could have saved hundreds of lives in Iraq and more particularly Afghanistan?

The MOD mandarins like to persist in their idea that we are still a superpower defending the 'Western World' from the Communist hoards when it is obvious to many that what is really needed is a form of Combined Services Rapid Response Force. There has been talk for years of combining the services but of course none of the Lords and Knights etc in charge can stomach this move.. You would NOT need so much Brass and Scrambled egg.. ergo less 'gongs' on offer.

I mean what credibility do we have when we still maintian a multi-billion dollar Trident force, build carriers we don't want, because we have no aircraft to fly off them, and can't even deter a bunch of raggedy assed 'Pirates' from making the RN look stupid.

Rant over. Caveat .. This is no way a Political statement just a long held personal view... ;)

Although I could go on, I really could [-x ~x(

I totally agree MOD - don't think those with the power really do have the where with all to do what needs to be done, they just nibble at the edges instead of grasping the problem by the bal boll testicles!!

Now there's a thought. As Wedgy is redesigning the site why not have a 'Best Rant of The Day' thread? =))

Actually I'm calming down a bit now. Just opened a bottle of Waxed Bat. It is brilliant. From Argentina - Malbec grape. Courtesy of Laithwaites Wines.

All I need now is for Jigsaw to come up with one of his ill timed (for me) witticisms and I end up spraying my screen red. Just like I did following his 'all 4 engines must be on the same bearing' post on the VTTSClub some years ago. CLASSIC. =))

Don't know what you mean. Tell 'em Pam, I am really quiet when you meet me.

Ian, I can't even remember what brought that post up. Do remember your reaction though :))
