Postby Sooty655 » Tue Jan 25, 2011 10:08 pm

The interim factual report has been issued here - large pdf.

FDR and CVR both not working. ~x(

Examination is focussed on deployment of one thrust reverser on take-off. :-o

I don't remember this - anyone remember if it was it posted on here? I can't find anything doing a search.
In memory of a very dear friend - Mike Pearson

Very fond memories of Robbie Gilvary - DTs 1st Vulcan Captain who taught DT all he knew.

I don't think it was. It didn't get much publicity at the time. I have the feeling there was a more media-attractive accident around the same time, but I can't remember what (age again ;) ).

"Old freighter crashes, only six dead" sort of situation. [-x

I came across the link to the report on PPRuNe, and thought it was interesting, not only the state of the CVR and FDR and the No 4 engine, but also the detail about the inspection of the flight instruments to determine power settings when it crashed. Old-fashioned crash investigation which is usually un-necessary in these days of digital recorders.

This is only an interim report of fact, not findings and recommendations. Will be interesting to see what the final report says. :-?

Thanks for the list, Thumps. It must be age, because there is nothing there to attract more media attention. I guess it was just the "far away and not many dead" effect that caused it not to be widely reported. :((
