Thought you might find this interesting::::::::::::::::

The snow-removal crew at BIA is legendary, and
the airport NEVER closes. If flights are ever CXed,
it's because the destination airport is the one
that's snowed in.

Every other year they run a week-long seminar
attended by snow removal crew from around the
world. Equipment mfgs. bring their latest stuff
to Bangor for these guys to test and evaluate.....

I think the last time KBGR was closed for
anything more than 10 minutes was on 9/11
when ALL US airports were shut down by
presidential order......

Once in a while, they will close for a brief
interval (like 10 minutes) so the plow guys
can just get a jump on things.

When Logan, JFK, LaGuardia, Newark,
and others close, the pan here in Bangor
can fill-up Very Quickly!

I think the record was over 50 aircraft
glued to the Bangor Pan which overflowed
onto the National Guard parking area.....

All PAX had places to sleep and were fed.
It's part of the "Plan".

Big Radials starting up.. FW190

Postby MOD » Wed Mar 16, 2011 7:30 pm

I would love to see/hear one of these again. Oh and that backfire!!

We are so lucky there are so many , mainly American, enthusiasts with deep pockets who are capable of restoring such iconic aircraft. There is something about the start-up of a large radial. ;)

And someone needs to inform that young lady
that high-heels of any kind are unacceptible
on a wing surface!

Thank You Both!

Yes OK ... Eventually ... Don't forget for us the war started in 1939 - not the end of 1941! :p Up until then the FW190 was proving to be a bit of a handful. In the end the P-51D did prove to be the top dog, because of it's range as much as anything else, but some of the earlier variants were not so hot.

PS Danforth can you find any more vids of large radial engine start-ups like your recent B-29 capture?

Well, you could go to the Constellation
thread: "Beautiful From Any Angle" for
a start......(under Commercial Arcraft).

Good God! There is a TON of really fine
radial startups out there!

AND on Here!

Should we start a devoted thread?

D.

PS:

YES, I KNOW (!) regarding the P-51 Mustang......

God knows I've Read enuff about it, and it
wasn't all about the range.....

D again

I hope everyone got a BEER!

Or maybe even TWO!

Maybe a Sandwich?

Nice gesture, though.....

I think it's Criminal that there's
no replacement!

Our countries could have provided it
in cooperation if anyone had any SENSE!

As far as I'M concerned, NOW is the
time for both of our civilizations to
Stick Together in the way we've always
done........

Some of you might remember that one of my
all-time favo(u)rites is the Dehavilland Beaver......

This COULD be way up north in Maine, but I'm
not certain. Title indicates it's Not Alaska.

The landing is superb!

EDIT: I just looked up the tail number, and it
IS registered to Kodiak, Alaska.

We do have a good number of them in Maine,
but noone seems to video them....
