But, Helennnnnnnn...........

You've GOT to admit you're a special case, here......

There are VERY FEW WOMEN who's little hearts go:
"ker-thunk ker-thunk ker-thunk" at the sound of a
propeller-driven aircraft! Let alone wanting to go
for a RIDE in one!!!!!!

I think you need a JOB that would keep you around
these critters, don't you??????????????

I thought there was a thread about the remake of it's own but I can't one ...so..

Did anyone hear the Radio 5 interview yesterday with Stephen Fry?

I haven't heard it but was told Peter Jackson has 3 Hobbit to films to make in the next 3 years so looks like the DB has been pushed back even further. :(

think the interview is on iplayer

I haven't listened to the interview either (will have to have a look later) but I've been following the Hobbit movie since it was announced as I'm a massive fan of the book (as well as tLOTR books/movies).

I can see why DB is on hold, priority wise, the hobbit is massive, people have been waiting a long time for an adaptation. Shame for Dambusters fans though :(
I can't wait to see what the life size replica will look like.

I just hope when it is finally made they do it justice.

If American producers/film studios have anything to do with it it will be based on B17s with All American crews. Like Memphis Belle, which was originally based on a Lancaster/RAF story...

Oh and the Americans also captured the Enigma machine.. There were no Brits in Normandy on D-Day etc etc

I love the Yanks but not their 'Movie' treatment of 'Our' history.

It also goes to show that, nowadays, a kids film will always take precedent over anything 'serious' which would mainly appeal to adults ..

Compared to what Guy Gibson and 617 Squadron achieved I'm afraid that 'Hobbit - The Movie' will never be 'Massive' ... I would watch it though as 'The Lord of the Rings trilogy' was my favourite book , as a 10 year old..

If you think The Hobbit and LOTR are for kids maybe you should read them again. It is the fact that they are massive that BD has taken a back seat. Film makers are in to make money, so I'm not holding my breath to see the remake of DB.

JRR Tolkien wrote them for his kids.. BTW I have read them numerous times in the last 40 years.. Purely for the nostalgia and because they are a great kids adventure story . ;) Come on RLN they are a fairy story!!!

Personally I can't see why we need a remake of The Dambusters. ;)

There are MANY recent remakes that didn't
warrant making. I can think of several......

As far as the UK/US thing, bear in mind it's
a two-way street.

Lots of post war books, films, TV shows made
in your country took the view that Britain won
the war and the Murkins just helped-out a little.

Some even took the position that America was
more of a hinderance than a help!

WE all know it was a bloody awful but successful
joint venture.

It's all about perspective, and admittedly, people
without the actual Memory of those times will
shoot for the mass audience and not for accuracy.

But who knows?

The new Dambusters might turn out okay!

But I doubt it, too.........

I think you need to go and look at who is meant to be involved with the project ;) :D especially the technical advisor :D

Peter Jackson is NOT a Hollywood type, he's a hands on director/producer who gets down and dirty with the cast in order to make the best movie possible. He's also done his research, I read a couple of years back that he was using official information from the actual raids.
He's wanted to remake the film since the 90s but Mel Gibson owned the rights to it back then.

Who would you rather have remake it? PJ or Mel Gibson :-o :-o =)) =)) =)) =))

I'm a big fan of PJ and I KNOW if he's involved it won't end up being Hollywood-ized.
Plus Weta workshops are making 10 life sized Lancaster Models.

Helen, you'll be an OLD Lady by the time P.J. gets around to actually making it and getting it in to cinemas! ;)

I think it would be criminal to change the name of Gibsons dog............ X(

Its history, you cannot rewrite history..................... :ymapplause:

In fact it was mentioned before that( I do not use this name in any derogatory way whatsoever), Nigger was a brown Labrador not black, so where is the problem................... :D

get real people, there is too much PC out there, I agree that there needs to be some policing but this is rediculous :p

My personal gripe is that black persons
are allowed to use "The Word" liberally.....

So What?

They should call the dog by his name, and
if anything it will generate attention and
maybe a little controversy.

Perhaps the controversy might lead to a
little dialogue and a better understanding,
but given the world we live in, probably not........

All joking aside, it is good to see she will finally get a proper and correct mid-upper turret fitted.
