Changing the subject . I spent the day at RAF Hendon out of the rain. A superb collection of aircraft in light modern display arena

As you will be aware it is home to XL318. I had a long discussion with a gentleman there who assured me that this particular Vulcan was not built at Woodford but in India ????????

I did wonder if "White Van Man" had been stopped by The Old Bill on the way up how the conversation would have panned out.
'Excuse me Sir could you tell me what you've got in the back of your van?'
'A couple of bombs'
'You do realise that it is an offence to waste police time don't you sir?
'No really'
I'd rather be skiing

Busy day at Wellesbourne yesterday, and mostly successful. The replacements for the corroded crack patches in the two ram air intakes were installed, intermittent problems with the main air-brake motor were traced to a faulty time delay unit which was changed, lots of painting and general tidying up was done, and Bovril's rejuvenated tug now has its bonnet back on.

Lots more painting, washing and tidying still to do, with work planned from Wednesday onwards in the build-up to our big day on 26th.

Metcheck doesn't look too bad at the moment, so we are all hoping for another pleasant and memorable weekend.

Richard's and Fred's handiwork on the starboard end-fence after fitting and etch-priming and before the undercoat and topcoats were added. Similar was done on the port wing which had a similar badly corroded steel repair over a 4" crack.

By the way, the gentleman in the distance on the left wearing a light coloured coat was a Wellington bomb aimer from the '39-'45 unpleasantness - a lovely guy with some fantastic stories.

We had a modest number of air cadets from 150 City of Oxford Sqn with us yesterday - they did a terrific job of top coating the previously treated undersides of the Nos 5 and 6 elevons - they positively gleam now (the trouble is the other 6 don't). Whilst they were doing that their CI and Bryan were doing similar to the airbrakes on the upper wings.

Why don't you offer 'experience' days to air cadets in exchange for a donation?
I'm sure you'd have lots of takers. :)

A number of MaPS volunteers have spent a lot of time this week tidying up '655 in preparation for Wings & Wheels on Sunday. Here is the freshly painted ECM bay/RWR radome:

Bry using his skill to freshen up the stencilling on the undercarriage doors:

Richard taking a break from cleaning the airframe:

And finally, there's only one thing better than a woman with a mop......and that's two of them :ymdevil:

Image

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Sunday, the weather looks good, the aircraft is in fine fettle, and we should have a good show to put on for you.......only £5 per adult (MaPS members free), and all proceeds go to the upkeep of XM655 and her associated ground equipment. We'll have some new acquisitions on display as well.....

Hi all. I missed the two scrubbers on the wings as some of us have a job of work that keeps the wolf from the door! However with a cunning plan to pursuade DT and Mrs DT to pay a visit to Wellesbourne on Sunday I've now uploaded a few photos to the website taken this evening as XM655 was moved across the Wellesbourne airfield in readiness for rehearsals tomorrow.
Fortunately I arrived at the airfield in good time for the aircraft move.

Hope you enjoy taking a look.
