Breitling Connie is Back!

Now why would the Connie Flyers Assoc book into Farnborough without any intention of bringing said aircraft?

A freebie away day(s) for the top brass?

I just don't get it. You have a fully serviceable, truly iconic aircraft, with a headline sponsor and you (apparently) frequently send a team to Farnborough, but not the aircraft in question. Why??

Simple explanation is it's kind of
a place-saver.....

Another thing is they've always
been happy to hear from me, but
when I asked about Farnborough
it suddenly got all (...uh) "Why
don't you just come over here and
take a ride in the ALPS?????"

I WILL find out!

This is when things are planned
for 2012, after all!

My feeling is that Connie Flyers have a
slot at Farnborough just in case Breitling
decides to bring the Constellation to England
in 2012.........

I know they want to have members in your
country.....

Breitling UK have no say in it, all they
can do is ask nicely for Connie to pay
a visit......

Breitling have a history of bankrolling
trips to France and Germany every year,
but GB gets left out........

Maybe THIS is the year?

Don't know, can't say, but DO NOT want
to screw things up if it is........

This next week I will try to find out more,
Pushy, Obnoxious Murkin that I am!!!!

All I hope is that IF they do it, they will
do it in a Big Way!!!!!!!!!

I got a chance one time to ask a retired
airline captain who had flown both the
Constellation and the DC-6 what was the
difference between the two......

His Answer:::::::::

"The DC-6 was designed and built for the
Airlines. The Constellation was designed
and built for the Pilots."

I think that sums it up quite well!

Yes, that's NICE!

That was the "Thing" with Lockheed back
then. They used to interview pilots and
send them questionaires about what THEY
wanted in an aircraft.

This guy came through Bangor back in the
mid 1990s with the Commemorative Airforce
and a B-17 and a B-24 for two days.

Of course, I went out to see them, and this
fellow was one of the pilots. He had been a
WWII bomber then transport pilot, did the
Berlin Airlift, and then into airline service.
In "retirement" he flew the old crates.

Just a little guy! Not an ounce of fat on him!
Not unlike DT in that respect.....

What a Great Conversation we had leaning
up against the chain link fence.

I'll never forget it, but I'll have to go back
through my journals to remember his name.....

The one without music is great, BUT WHY DIDN'T the cameraman use something to mask all the wind noise, airfields are notoriously windy!
