Interesting developments at Coventry, with the formation of a new charitable trust to keep the collection flying and in the UK for many years to come.

Reading between the lines, is this not just AA saying they can no longer afford to operate the collection without other funding income so it's over to a Charitable Trust to do it?

How is this a positive move?

POSITIVE in the fact that if as you say it's a move to gain extra funding, at least they haven't just shut up shop!

According to Mike Collett's letter to Classic Flight Club members in the latest Meteor magazine: donating members of the Classic Flight Club will be donating to a Charitable Trust with certain financial benefits to CAT such as Gift Aid. To me it looks like a similar arrangement to the VTTS Trust and the VTTS Club arrangement ie we donate and are likely to get preferential treatment from the CAT, who have now sworn to keep as many of their collection in flying condition and to ensure none of the Heritage aircraft are ever sold abroad, like the F8 Meatbox - this sale really seems to have p++sed Mike off.

Only time will tell whether or not this scheme will prove as successful as the VTTS Club's efforts were in keeping 558 airborne. Let's also hope that CAT's members actually receive some benefit from their subscriptions - unlike 558's Club members.
