Mosquito flies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's a video that will make you sit up!
Taken yesterday here in New Zealand shows Mosquito KA114 running both Merlins and then.......................moving under her own power.
She has been weighed for weight and balance calculations and so far she is running very smoothly!

First flight is in the next day or so I'd say. Then there is a airshow at Ardmore on Saturday 29th with her as the star attraction. Sunday is the wet weather day so fingers crossed!

I'll be at the show and may even be able to get even closer to the Mossie as my mate going with me knows the Avspecs guys well. I'll post some photos here afterwards. Also Gavin Conroy who is a NZ aviation photographer has some great shots on Facebook so if you search his name you'll see them.

EDIT: Video of taxi into Ardmore after first flight. Had a failure of ASI which was traced to a leaking hose, all fixed and she flew again!

I'm so pleased - DT was asked 2.5years ago if he would like to fly her as he had all the required elements for test flights but he had already stopped flying

Very exciting; these youtube links are doing the rounds at the moment - so great to see. The top link shows it taking off from Auckland airport after arriving from its first flight, which was made from Ardmore to AKL. The second was landing back at Ardmore. Just a marvellous sight.

It's been a wonderful day watching Jerry Yagen's Mossie fly today. Just blown away by the whole experience. I saw grown men crying at the sight of it; no word of a lie, a chap standing near me was openly weeping as the Mossie roared over on its first fly past. He was low too! Low and faaaast - you'd never see a warbird doing a display like that in the UK, certainly not one that flew two days earlier! No doubt photos will appear soon. Baz?

I once used to live in the UK and I saw RR299 at a number of airshows back in the mid 1990s, but this was something quite special; the atmosphere was unlike any show I've been to in a long time.

Well done to all involved and thanks for a very special day.

I've just got home from a great weekend. I've been up close to a Mosquito (still cant believe it flew!!) a Vickers Vincent (I'll post photos of that one later) an Oxford, two Hinds....phew i'm shattered. i'll post these shots for now and do some more tomorrow. Nighty night!

This video is a nice job and a nod to the New Zealand veterans who flew the Mosquito in WW2. Sad that now there are so few of them.

And as well as the airshow the members of the Wings over New Zealand Forum had a forum gathering at Don Subritzky's place.

He had no idea what the big wingless aeroplane was, so we told him it was a Vickers Vincent.....nope still hadn't heard of it!
The good thing for you guys is its coming to the UK! Not sure when as its going down to Wigram for some further work at our Air Force Museum (who has its virtually identical brother a Vildebeest)
Don has two (or was it three?) Hawker Hinds with two on display at least with one of them under rebuild to fly:


That one was on display at the Airforce Museum in the 1980s for a while.
