What's the latest on XM603?

Hi guy's,

After hearing there would be a new Heritage centre at Woodford and that XM603 is now safe *touch wood* I was just wondering what the latest on her was, has she been moved, worked on at all,or are there still discussions on what is to be done with her now she is safe? Cheers,

From what I am aware of nothing much! That's not to say there aren't plans.

I hope to get a meeting with one of the Woodford owners in the next two weeks,
when there i will ask for permission to take more detailed shots of 603,
[particularly the undercarrage].

These shots will be sent to more expierienced iconic forum members for opinions
on her condition, and how safe she is to move to the new Avro Heritage Cent about
a quarter of a mile away.

Then again i could be told to "Butt out we have everything under control" il'e
keep the forum advised.

At least the additional struts we made and fitted have stopped the doors flapping in the breeze. Otherwise, I think the doors would be completely off by now.

The top of the jack is just hanging on the hydraulic pipes (walking joints) because the upper brackets were removed for use on the Yorkshire Replica.

This is how we found the door jacks with the upper brackets removed and the weight of the jacks hanging on the walking joints and the doors swinging in the not inconsiderable airfield breeze. We decided that we needed to do something not just for the sake of the aircraft but also for the safety of people from BAE Systems who at that point were still allowed to walk up to the aircraft. It's at least reassuring to see that our homemade jury struts are still holding fast nearly three years later.....

Wonderful news.

I'm surprised they were able to get the tyres to hold enough pressure for the trip. Now she is on decent level ground, she will be a lot easier to work on.
