I don't know anything for sure [not heard from the horses mouth or the aircrew] what is happening but as I said above I strongly doubt that the problem has been over looked.

Technically there isn't any runway :)) just a grass strip.

There's all that (American) extension the other side of the road which looks in fairly good nick. I've seen a light aircraft land on it.

Apart from the trees of course ;) :)) =))

She's a Lanc, thats all she needs to take off from... Concrete would be a luxury in 611's eyes.

Heres the new link to follow the restoration

http://www.lincsaviation.co.uk/news/lancaster-nx611-return-to-flight/

and checking the PtoF details the date for the expected processing of the PtoF is July this year.

Full page piece in yesterday's Sunday Telegraph

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/history/worl ... other.html

"Stripping the Lancaster down to make it airworthy will take a year or so, but the brothers will see it through, promises Fred. “We are in our twilight years now, but we have more to do. I want to watch it take off, do a fly-past then land. Then I shall say, ‘Mission accomplished’"

I'm sorry if this has been posted, but they've just posted a photo of the runway extensions they will be doing to fly her (told you so :p =)) =)) ), I know if I was restoring a priceless Lancaster I'd spend a couple of extra quid on concrete/tarmac.

This has been the subject of some debate, so here's a quick graphic to show the runway layout for the possible flights from East Kirkby by NX611.

so if there is a reserve runway, what is happening with the road between the main site & the reserve ??

It will be traffic controlled as per local authority regulations, but the aim is to mostly use the re-instated WWII main runway to a length of 6000ft. If the reserve runway is used the Lancaster will be towed over there from the main site.

Thanks for that Helen. :ymapplause:

They really are serious about this, mind you it's a bit flash having a reserve runway as well! :-o

Could be a decent future airshow venue with the extended strip.

I notice it's to one side of the original runway, presumable it's too difficult to get rid of those trees and fill in the ponds.

Can't wait to see it finished \:D/
Is it too short for a Vulcan ;) =)) =))

Au contraire Xp, 558 took off from Brunty on first post restoration flight in a very very short distance. Don't forget our babe is lighter than the original RAF days. Basically I would bet if you can get it in, you will get it out! Unless they build a motorway while your there. :)

What she can do and what is legal are 2 different things.

A very nice report about JJ on Look North tonight, taxi rides are booked until May next year and they hope JJ will be airborne in 3 years.

Spotted her being used in a loan ad this morning, the one with the prats in RAF uniforms. Suppose it puts money in the fund.
