I'd also like to thank my friend for being ill, thus allowing me to take full advantage of a beautiful day in Lincolnshire =))

So while sorting out my old photos, I found the pictures of the LWP that was using the other runway at East Kirkby that I mentioned in the Just Jane thread.

I assume he meant to land there and didn't just miss the LAHC grass strip =))

I'd love to have a look at the Yorkshire airfields, but we very rarely go 'oop north'

with the exception of Hull and Goole.

Really, thank you all for the lovely comments, it makes wandering around in woodlands in -1 temps worth it $\:D/$

I didn't even get out of the car for these :))

I'm still not sure whether to call it RAF Ingham or Cameringham as I've seen it written as both I'll go with Ingham as that's the what the website calls it (and I can spell it =))

).

There are loads of buildings, walls and what look like shelters in this little bit of woodland by the side of the road and I'm dying to sneak in and look but I'm too scared to :))

I'm going to spend this week end writing a couple of paragraphs for each site, to give a bit of history.

Some good news for Binbrook's Lightning

However, Ray Whiteley and Charles Ross have now completed the purchase of just over two acres of land where XR724 and the 460 Squadron memorial lie, and so for the first time since she flew in we are in a position where nobody can tell us what to do. Even if she were to be taken apart at some point in the future for transport elsewhere, Ray and Charles have bought us the time to do so at our own speed.

I finally plucked up the courage to trespass onto what's left of the runway at Binbrook =))

Oh Helen!!

Binbrook, especially CG3, was Nirvana for Lightning freaks like me.

Those shots are so sad. Thank goodness I have my slides taken from 1982 - 1988.

To tell the truth the place feels sad, and it wasn't the weather or the fact it was getting dark, because I felt the same the last time I was there when it as warm/sunny.

I have no recollection of whether I did or didn't go to Binbrook at some point when I was little (with my dad), mum doesn't know either. And the only memory I do have of actually going was of nothing :))

I still say it was something to do with Memphis Belle, but I have no one to ask

so I'll never know. It was a nice sunny day though :))

Helen I tried to get back to CG3 for the filming of Memphis Belle but I couldn't get anywhere near.. All approaches were blocked.

I don't mind, 16th July I was 5 (6 on July 30th).

I just have this really vague memory of going on a day trip with my dad to the seaside and of us stopping somewhere and him telling me it was an airfield.
But I don't remember any aircraft, which makes me wonder if, like you, we couldn't get anywhere near it either and we ended up viewing it from elsewhere in the Wolds,

Like this, Binbrook from the hills to the east (near Kelstern)

The dates certainly match up with my memory's, it being sunny and summer.

But saying that I don't remember any aircraft doesn't really mean a lot as I went to goodness knows how many air shows when I was little, and the only memory I have is going on the Waltzers =))

So there could have been lots flying and I just don't remember =))

I was always destined to miss the lightnings :((

I probably have seen one fly (our house is next to Waddington's 20 approach, 4 miles out, so if one visited it would have had to pass us by), I was just too young to remember or even care :((

I've spent the last couple of weeks trying to think what I want to do about the photos. I can't stand the fact that Facebook makes them so disorganised ~x(

So I tried putting them in albums on Photobucket, but I only got as far as Folkingham and my account is 86% full :))

so that didn't work.(I can't afford to buy more space every month).

So I had a walk around the woods at RAF Bardney last week, which are the old bomb stores. I've put them in my unused Google+ account to see how many I can upload there.

If it works, this is the hut I mentioned earlier in the thread. I used to play in here when I was little, it fell down several years ago and not a lot has changed in that time.

Something I hadn't noticed before were the foundations dotted around.

I'm going to spend the rest of the night uploading as many of the albums as I can just to test the limit :))

I will NOT be deleting anything from Facebook!

I did think about doing one for myself, one of those photo book things that you can order, but I've taken over 1500 photos so far, not sure how I'd narrow it down =))
