I really mean it when I say thank you for looking
I'm about a quarter of the way through writing a blog post it's harder than it looks


Not sure where to go from here now I've done the airfields that I wanted to do (as well as a couple of unexpected ones). There are still a couple that I can add to like Coleby Grange and Fiskerton, but I think I'm pretty much finished for the time being. But any opportunity to add to the albums I'll take I just haven't got anything planned.

Perhaps it's time to have a rest and re-charge the batteries. Personally I think it would be a shame not complete all Lincolnshire airfields but of course it's your choice and you have plenty of time to do so. I can't remember how many there were was it 145? I know there was 38 at the end of WWI.

I like that it makes for very interesting reading, most people don't realise what histroy they have n their doorstep.
We have the ex Hawker factory on squires gate lane next to the airport in Blackpool which produced, wellingtons during the war and Hunters post war.

After a couple of months off I had a nice walk around Wickenby this afternoon.

...the huts are just under where it says "12 Squadron Dispersals".









I was quite surprised how open the back of the airfield was, I probably shouldn't say so, but there was just a mound of earth, I'm sure there is CCTV though. And even though it was a public footpath (signposted) I felt like I wasn't supposed to be there.

I still haven't had a look at most of Fiskerton, I was going to have a look a couple of weeks ago after East Kirkby, but I had a fall in Bardney's bomb stores and didn't feel like it Wish someone had caught it on camera though, it was quite spectacular

Anyway, feel free to browse the other albums, I've added to quite a few of them since my last update, I just can't remember off the top of my head which ones, Waddington has some new ones thanks to the air show and I found the memorial at Sutton Bridge.

From the brief bit of research I did last week when I got home, it seems to be the one that was at Metheringham visitors centre, but I've no idea how it came to be at Wickenby.

I think the Guy that had it at Metheringham sold it but it was left at Metheringham for quite a while before the new owner got round to moving it.

I think the wings are off it and is supposed to be going up a pole [the stick type!!!]

Tiny bit of news, we drove over Metheringham the other day and I noticed they have started work building the Nissen hut that will become the B&B/hotel thingy. I haven't got any photos, I'll try next time I'm in the area

Also I mentioned in an earlier post (although I can't find it now ) about the opening of the 'Path of Friendship' at the Church in Faldingworth.

I went round in August and took some photos as Tim has written an article for the Friends of Metheringham Newsletter that will be published in December about his plans for the Tower and how he got where he is today.

Most of what he's done this summer has been obscured by the corn growing in the field, the last time I was there is was about 6' high.
