Nipped over to Elvington to watch the "Large Model Aircraft" show, very enjoyable , with not one
but two "Vulcans Flying" both aircraft were spectacular....

Try some of these.....? I shot 40 images of 558 when she made her three passes, the result...
most of them CRAP... Wrong exposure....Wrong shutter speed...Wrong focus.....

Still i like some of the model shots, & Sploosh/others will post some [Crackers] i'm sure.

Please excuse what's probably a dumb question from someone who knows nothing about model building:

How are model jets powered? Model prop planes are obvious, but how are the jets propelled? JM

with jet engines , this model has 4 compared to the one last which was smaller and was powered by 2.......

I have yet to download most of my pics from yesterday.....

Have a look at Wren jet engines....based in Rotherham South Yorkshire. I think
it was them at the model show offering a price reduction...retail £1,700 @ the
show £1,400.

@ Sploosher. Obviously it would 'a jet' of some sort, but I'm asking how the propulsion works. It can't be exactly the same as on a full size model because the mechanics of the engine and the properties of the fuel wouldn't miniaturise without having a slightly different method of combustion; in the same way that Guage 1 etc steam locos generally don't operate in the same way as full size locos and have simplified valve gear.

I should imagine it works on the same principle, but how exactly i dont know, as Ray said, they had them on special offer all weekend..............marvelous things they are to

Even the great Wikipedia just says that model jet turbines are different to full sized ones and need to be specially designed for the purpose, or in other words the writer of that article doesn't know either!

If I find out, I'll post the answer...

They have to work on the same principle. Suck, squeeze, bang, blow. There is no other way with turbine propulsion (jet).
