Beautiful from Every Angle:::::

Postby Dan4th » Sat Jun 27, 2009 2:45 pm

Here's some official vid from Le Bourget........

Like the Spitfire and a very few others, Connie
does NOT have a "bad" side! They even gave
her nice, rounded wingtips to keep Mr. Blythe
happy! I guess it's true that a curve is always
more pleasing than a straight line....

Wish the quality were better, but....

Now ........ you see ...........I really don't know............Is it REALLY nice to look at ...........I'm not sure..........I've never really taken to it as a looker .... to me it just looks...... well..........odd :p

Sorry folks .... its like CGs view of Concorde etc etc ---- we all have our aesthetic views and I'm afraid the Connie just doesn't do it for me - rounded wing tips or not (and that's just it - rounded is one thing - elliptical is another :p )

So I'm afraid I'm not convinced - sorry an' all that :D :D

THB I generally find a/c have a beauty of their own, some don't look pretty on the ground but look good in the air and visa versa.... all with exception of the Sentnel [Astor] that was at the back for queue for everything, it could never look good... [sick] [in loo of being able to post the smiley]

Just to satisfy my curiosity, Mr. Blythe, which
four-engined propliner DOES push the right
buttons for you?

Oh, and I would NEVER question someone's
personal taste in aircraft. It's like telling
someone their baby is ugly!

Well .... now you see ....there's another thing..... I can't say that there's any particular one of that genre that makes me suck in breath in admiration :-s .

I suppose the Lancaster has a 'fit for purpose' look and feel to it - 4 spitfires flying in close formation and all that - but it's not 'beautiful' per se. For me with the Lanc its more sort of - well evocative of emotion concerning the people who went to war in them and what it as a plane did - but its not beauty in shape and form. There's not one 4 prop engine plane I could draw to immediate mind that instills feelings in me like a Spitfire does.

To me the sheer essence of something like the Spitfire - which also inspires the same emotions as I feel for the Lanc - is in its ability to not just do the job - to be fit for it and at the same time be good at it - but also to be a joy to behold all at the same time. Reginal Mitchell designed a plane that has not just the abilty to fulfill its design brief. but also to look clean and graceful - it just looks stunning to me and in its purest form (which I've explained before) IS a thing of beauty from every angle - but this shot just sums it up for me. =p~ :ymdaydream:

I'm with the Murkin on this one; there are very few a/c that look good from ALL angles - Spitfires, Vulcans, VC10s, Connie etc - Concorde, on the other hand, could look very gangly from certain angles, but absolutely STUNNING from others

C-17s though....... :ymsick:

:D

I think you'll find that Dan4th's thread title is 'Beautiful from every angle'

and he then says Connie does not have a bad side ;)

So why are you with him on the fact that few a/c look good from all angles - as he says the exact opposite :-o
