I just find it amazing how bombs have gone from cylindrical stubby pointy things... that blow big holes in the ground - to the various shapes and sizes of armourment, missiles etc - that are employed today.

In my day it was 1,000 pounders' + (An optional Nuke if needed) or Red Tops' and Shrikes missiles bolted to Frightnings and Phantoms. (None of this laser guided stuff was forseen in dem days.

It must be an Armourers' nightmare - keeping pace with todays technology. Maybe Pam could enlighten us with the advancement of aircraft weaponry

I remember seeing footage once - taken by a journalist from his hotel balcony in a city under attack - looking down on a cruise missile 'flying' down the middle of the street below and 'turning left' at a junction and carrying on to its target where it went in through a window

It's just amazing how accurate this new stuff is

Wrong person to ask Mr Knees - I left the RAF 20 years ago & made a conscience decision to leave all behind me & not keep up to date. My interest has only been rekindled in the last couple of years.

Laser guided/smart weaponry is nothing new tho' , I remember touching on the subject many, many moons ago in my basic training.

The incident Spitfire mentions was from the first Gulf war back in the early 90's - I remember it well - fascinating to see and you are right they can guide it into a bucket!!!!

It really goes to show that you can have all the advanced weaponry and pre-planned targets the world can offer etc, but you can never take away the skill and judgement of the Pilot.

Its funny how other people feel about this sort of footage, reading the comments left under the article. "propaganda"....blah, blah, blah
