One of the things I would LOVE to see TVST align themselves to are charities for terminally ill children, I know they would never be allowed to fly in her but 'a day out once in lifetime experience' of seeing & hearing her could extend a childs life by 6 months or more [official figures] - and I'm sure a lot of airshows would be willing to do their bit too not to mention local businesses sponsoring a buffet lunch for them.

Great idea Mayfly

They did a similar thing a few years ago at Brize, they laid on 2 VC10's and a Tristar plus each jet had a member from the 'fastfoodrockers'.

The kids had a wonderful time, and a few weeks after we had a letter from one of the families saying how there child had passed away a few days after the flight and wanted to thank the station as it gave from comfort in the fact they had seen there child enjoy himself so much.

I've also floated this as a suggestion, following fundraising I did for the Willow Foundation a few years ago. WF is a charity set up by Bob and Megs Wilson (yes, Bob Wilson the goalkeeper) following the death of their daughter. WF organises special days out for terminally ill children.

XM655 had a visit from some children who were victims of Chernobyl, either last year or the year before.

Ramshornvortex hosted it, and said that explaining what a Vulcan was actually designed to do was a bit "difficult", but a good time was had by all.

We are always happy to handle such visits, and can usually open bomb doors, etc, and make noises with the Rover, but "proper" noise takes a bit more organisation in advance, as we have to arrange to move the aircraft.

One Olympus 301 has twice the power of a complete F1 starting grid.
XM655 has four of them, all serviceable.

An excellent idea and one worth taking forward. We still have to deal with the difficulties of access to our current location, but that doesn't mean we cannot ask the question. However, I can see nothing wrong with organising something during the flying season!

I have dealings with Sense, the childrens' charity for deaf and blind children, and my day job takes me to a few special schools for profoundly disabled children, so I have been thinking along the same lines for a while. Gully, email me and we could put our club heads together on this!

More likely fired out of one!! :)) And that's not a fundraising suggestion ;) =))

I promoted WF within the company I used to work for and following a staff vote, they became our corporate charity for that year. Can't take much too credit as I was simply part of our fundraising committee and the staff contributed heavily to most of the events.

What with the purpose of the Vulcan being to bring mutually assured destruction to their Homeland, using the very same nuclear power that had caused such misery after Chernobyl, what else could I tell them about the Vulcan? Oh yes, the Falklands - nobody likes the Argies do they? ;)

The big difference is that Chernobyl is still as i understand it slowly sinking towards the earth core what fate awaits the world when it gets there and there was no flash whereas if the vulcan unloaded the first most would know is an instant Xray in the street then meet your maker when vapourised .Either way not a lot of fun .Chernobyl,Hiroshima & Nagasaki should be held up as dam good examples of why the Vulcan ,Victor, Valiant & B52 were there to prevent those from happening again the first was the result of someone being very very careless the other 2 sent out a massage to the rest of the world that mass destruction can be delivered in an instant so behave.
