Classic flight at Coventry

So I havn't seen anything on this but if there is then appologies


I was reading Aircraft Magazine on Friday and there's a nice full page on these guys at Coventry.

There are two points being raised, first is that they want somewhere to base their CF centre but they havn't got a location yet. Doncaster was to be it (as a side note they would have shared the hangar with the Vulcan according to the article) but Peel Holdings held a board meeting and decided that they needed the hangar instead for caro use so it fell through (hence the Vulcan ending up at Lyneham I guess). Obviously they'd like to stay at Coventry but also Kemble and Hunberside are mentioned as well as a few others.
They want a big enough home so that other owners can bring in other aircraft, apparently discussions have been ongoing with owners of some "very interesting aircraft" ooooooo , being based at the CF Centre.
Mike Collett would like to let people take taxi rides around the airport in what ever, for a small fee
And he's proposed to sell shares in the aircraft to help with costs, wonder how much a DC-3 goes for

The second part of the article deals with getting the DC-3 fleet back to carrying passangers .
I stupidly missed out on getting a flight before they were stopped as mum "forgot" to book me on one for my birthday, anyway the other point is the corrosion on the DC-6 is being sorted and she might be back on the display circuit in time for next years season .

I can't remember now - was there some sort of relaxing of the rules to cover historic a/c or was the new rules not as strict as first reported?

Vintage aircraft can apply for a exemption to the rules so I understand, all the article says is that the CAA do not now require sybstantial mods but "I can assure you this is a much bigger hurdle than you'd ever imagine. But we are taking a positive stance and w wil see what we can do". - Mike Collett President of the Classic Flight Club.

However Paul and I were talking about this in August (I think it was) at Coventry and the CFC never aplyed for the exemption to carry passangers, they did how ever get on with taking out all the seats and turning G-AMPY (???) into a..... I dunno, some kind of spraying aircraft.

let's just hope they still have all the wherewithal to return her to pax standard then - i can't imagine a full set of original DC-3 seats are that easy to come by

I'd assume that they just put them in storage, I'd have thought getting people back on board would have been the eventual aim in the end. Well I hope they stored them anyway

the seats are easily removeable - BBMF do it all the time depending on what spares they need to carry
