XH558 on Facebook

Postby Squeak » Mon Jan 04, 2010 9:08 pm

Hi guys

XH558 has decided to join Facebook, and wants as many friends as she can muster!

If you're on Facebook, please search for Avro Vulcan and request her as a friend!

Thanks
Aggy :)

:-o
I though I was friends with XH558 about a year ago?

Is this the 'Real 558' and my current friend the 'Fake 558' :ymblushing:

Does this one include all the info to text donate? And is it available for all facebook users to see? It would be silly if the profile is viewable by friends of 558 only.............

That'll be the one I'm friends with too.
Done.

To add............There definately needs to be info in the Facebook page about the fundraising and how to donate (just not in the do it now, or die sense). People don't always click links to external websites as they're too busy telling the world about what they ate for dinner or didn't do at work/school. :-P

This is a new page set up by the Club (it's a personal profile for 558, separate from the group which is on there). It is available for all Facebook users to see.

It's a joint venture between Ian Homer and myself, and please do keep the ideas coming.

Thanks for the idea about the external links, I will add the text donation number on there.

Thanks for the invite, added and spammed a load of photos on the wall ;)

This could be a great way of getting more youngsters interested as it feels like they are talking with Avro herself which kids love :)

Very true, 558 has had people queuing up to chat with her all night, spoke to a young lad for 20 mins who has decided to become a member so it's worth doing.

558 is knackered now......... er... and so am I!

Night all :)

if it's aimed at children, why no mention of Vulcan Ventures, especially in the "Favourite Books" section?

I wonder!

Because I only have one pair of hands, Saracenman - on top of my full time job and being a parent.....

I put the link on here to find friends for 558 - I am more than happy to receive your suggestions but please do give me a chance - I only started on the thing at 5pm last night!

It's not aimed at children as such, it's aimed at ANYONE who loves our aircraft - Helen's comment just meant that the children might like the chat element, which I'm sure they do - but I had a mixture of the young and the old queuing up to speak to 558 last night.

Please keep the good ideas coming......

serious point

does the Facebook page comply with the Home Office guidelines on internet security, and VTST's own Child Protection Policy? all such endeavours have to I'm afraid ~x(

if you need any pointers on this, please let me know - it's currently something of a 'hot potato' with VTST ;)

You could try starting a discussion topic, something like "Ask 558 your questions here". Lots of people posting photos already so maybe start a "fan album" too as they get missed on the wall. Biography would be good too so people can read about her history. I know the fundraising is important but at the minute it needs other things on there like the above because currently it's all about donating money and theres already at least 2 other Vulcan pages similar with a huge amount of members so you need to do something a bit different and I think making it more of a "personal" feel would be the right direction to go in.

Like you said it's a new page and you have other commitments too so in your own time ;)

SM,

That is an issue you know I know well about! ;)

The chat function is something that needs to be of concern with regard to the FACEBOOK policy themselves and as part of their user agreement. I am happy we have sufficient safeguards in place and editorial control from different individuals who will be monitoring progress from "our" end.

Above all, first and foremost, it is a way of promoting the aircraft to as wide an audience as possible, in the hope we can save the business and move forward.

Regards,
Ian.

Facebook is a resource that should be exploited wherever possible.

It's generated more interest in the Guppy than I ever thought it would!

Good Work ;)

"PROJECT" - mutter mutter grumble, cue steam X( X( X( ~x( ~x(

It's a BUSINESS !!!!!!!

Sorry Ian - my pet hate! ;) :D The Trust is endeavouring to run an education programme and flight operations business, whereas the restoration project ended with first flight (or PtF issue - whichever you choose). It always frustrates me when the operation of '558 is referred to as a "project", as it seems to me a denial of the harsh realities and performance-based drivers of the business environment which should be all too apparent to those at Hinckley (I know you know!).

Anyway, back on topic - good work Squeek & PA28! Look forward to joining up later.

Cheers,

Gully

COOL!! Cheers Sara, didn't know of that site, am asking questions now :D

<edit for update as I was the last poster>

Who is Dickon Dearman?

He has spammed every single member on Avro Vulcans Facebook page by Private Message asking us to donate by txt. I find this rude and totally unnaceptable. The txt donation is already a banner on Avro Vulcans Facebook profile and has appeared countless times on the status updates. I am WELL aware of the txt donation and have been since summer last year. I thought this Facebook group for XH558 was going to be something a little different and not another fundraising page but it's not it's money, money, money ~x(

Dickon is Vice Chairman - Vulcan To The Sky Supporters Club.

I see your point Thumps .... but at the same time - its one of the reasons why I'm not going to be 'friends' with 558 on facebook.
Im on the forum
Im on the newsletters

Get all the information I ever need anyway.

Free world - if you don't like it, remove 558 as a friend ;)
