One Olympus 301 has twice the power of a complete F1 starting grid.
XM655 has four of them, all serviceable.

Breathtaking! I saw Endeavour take off in, I think, 2004. As memory serves, it was the first launch after Columbia
NB; Any negative comments I post about the Vulcan are posted SOLELY to wind Gregg up!

Not really kept up with this of late Cluny - the thread title is Last Scheduled NIGHT Launch...... does that mean there will be others, but during day light hours only? Or is it the last one total?

Whats with the flames at the front of the tailfin?

As for launches, there are still a few to go this year (3 I think) before it is scheduled to be grounded. But with nothing on the horizon to replace the shuttles, I wouldn;t be surprised if they soldiered on for a little longer yet. We'll see.

The flames were the exhausts for the APUs according to NASA .
Looks abit odd to me though :-\

3 flights left , all daylight launches and landings now :(

Glad it wasn't just me who thought is was a little odd. Perhaps their APU's are a smidge more powerful than the Rover on the Vulcan. :)
