Ah, Church Fenton. One of the places where my father-in-law was based in WW2. Also one of the areas that the ''Help for Heroes' Steam Special will be visiting on 27th March (see separate post in 'History Past and Present'.

That was my local RAF base when I was a kid in Pontefract, and used to go every year to the display. Lightnings, Argosy, Beverley, Vulcan, Hunters and the Red Pelicans in Jet Provosts before they became The Red Arrows. Happy days.

According to the commentary, Captain was Neil McDougall.

Wasn't Kev Rumens a VDF co-pilot back in '88 / '89?

Nice footage - thanks Dan4th!

It must have been one of Neils last displays because DT took over on the VDF from him & he did displays not long after. Yes Kev was a co-pilot on VDF when he was a Victor pilot - DT knew he was good & that is why he asked him to join the VTST.

Did Kev have a penchant for flying upside down then? Hope he doesn't do it on the approach to Heathrow :))

I thought it was the YELLOWJACKS with their GNATS and then the RED ARROWS with more GNATS, the PELICANS were a seperate entity, weren't they?

Black Arrows, Blue Diamonds, Yellowjacks........... I think they've been through just about every colour there is!!

Weren't all fixed wing display teams amalgamated in the early '60s?

I think it was '63 or '64 they changed to Red Arrows. Probably wrong. At work, limited internet access.
