Postby Hihonyr8811 » Sun Feb 21, 2010 10:19 pm

So first of all, I assume it's this?

Secondly, In the last week two people have asked me (my mum and someone on Youtube) why aircraft do this and I think I know but it's proved to me that actually, I don't really understand it :ymblushing: =)) , but I'd like someone to please take a moment to explain it better than me :D

Thirdly, can I copy any answers to YT and to tell mum :D pretty please.

Hi Helen, I hope the link below will give you some idea, also there are instances of asymmetric flaps that cause a similar effect.

Thought I would add this from you tube, have not watched it all but it is supposed to give and idea from inside the plane.

That's pretty much exactly what I was after thanks :D

I assume the basics apply to a Tornado as well?

basically yes, any multi engine aircraft can have asymmetric thrust, in the case of the Tornado in the picture this is due to different thrust between the two engines as seen in your photo, the left hand engine has no reheat engaged so the aircraft will be trying to turn to the left (more thrust on the right causing aircraft to yaw to left) and if you look carefully you will notice the rudder is off to the right to compensate.
