That is totally how the whole situation makes me feel. On one hand I am really excited that the money has been found again, but on the other hand I am shaking my head in complete disbelief! What happened to karma? How can TVOC's performance over the last 3 years be rewarded with such wonders, time and time again? Even cat's only have 9 lives....we must be on to our 35th life already I reckon!

I might have to try and force myself to step back again, because if I don't I run the risk of becoming consumed with trying to incite changes in attitude, of caring about things like why various opportunities haven't been cashed in on etc - when I don't have the time or ability to do anything about it....so it will just leave me annoyed, frustrated and cross.... Yes, time to step back I think!

Yep, exactly what I have ended up doing :(
Originally, I didn’t renew my membership because I hadn't had a renewal reminder and it was a matter of principal. But over time I have come to realise I don't want to renew.

  • I don't renew, therefore I don't feel involved.
  • I don't feel involved therefore I don't get so worked up by the many issues I have with the way things are managed.
  • I don't get worked up therefore the hair on my head stays there for longer.

Very very sad - but effective personally thus far.

I have applied simiar logic to other things too.

I have noticed that another trend that has occasionally blighted the whole project/business to date starting and that is the: oh you will have to wait and see, yes we are looking into it, cannot tell you yet as it is being finalised, but I hope that this does not go the way it has in the past and it all goes quiet and only odd things actually see the light of day. We really must not sit back and think it is all sorted and carry on as usual.

Well as you all know I stepped back before DT stopped flying simply because I was appalled at the way I was spoken to [well actually it was the way I wasn't spoke to, rather a message passed down via some-one else]

I still am interested in 588 & will go to watch her if she's in my area, but my time is now my own & I don't spend all day running around making phone calls or calling in favours - I spend it on here instead :)) :)) :))

Thanks CG, see your illness did help some of us, I too have to agree that, happy as I am to see the "snatched from the jaws of defeat" recent donation, I will now wait for 558 to strut her stuff at the couple of airshows I can get to throughout 2010!

personaly i feel quite sad about this get out of jail card the trust has been dealt again.
I'm chuffed that the supporters will see her again this year and the engineers get to continue doing a job they put so much into but sad because I'm pretty dam sure we'll be back here in Oct/Nov time(whoops sorry the trust will leave it while 2011).
Last year when she got bailed out there was the call that this shouldn't happen again and we must keep pushing for funds but it all got lost somewhere and the same thing will happen this time IMO.
Already i've red posts which simulate back patting and a job well done etc etc.(same as last year)
Personaly i'd have liked to have seen the trust's plan with what had been pledged prior to the anon's donation because i don't believe for one minute it would have ended with redundencies and a crippled Vulcan stuck at Lyneham,Incidentially a Base due to shut in the near future so if they had implemented there threat of redundancies and the techies had found other employment how and who would have done the work required to get her out of Lyneham?
Dont get me wrong i am pleased and looking forward to seeing her this summer but i really do hope lessons have been learn't and they do get it right this time but i have my doubt's.
hopefully i'm wrong

i'm also suspecting that there was a financial back up plan anyway, but just holding out to see how much would get pledged first.

I can only go on what I know from the past & that has been there was no back up of funding - If/when the workforce - remember there are more people affected by redundancy than just the engineers - get their notices it is for real!
They have in the past lost a couple of engineers who found other work in the 28day notice period, it would be a very silly game to play & not for 1 minute do I believe the trust would play a hand in such a way..

I was involved in the bomb bay door thingy.... I tried to find a manufacturer who could guarantee that a vynal? wrap fixed to the uneven surface of the bomb bay door that would stay on up to 500knots which was twice the top speed of the aircraft as dictated to me by the authorities and my bosses.
Needless to say I failed.... however we came up with the idea of a banner that was carried in the aircraft's cockpit... the banner was supposed to be attached to the fence around the aircraft for donors to see their names.... the banner now is on show at Bruntingthorpe in the airfield shop .

I think I have a PDF of the banner if anyone wants one for a small donation to the Trust...

That was one promise I kept......... almost
